Just picked up one of these in a trade. Any info on this rifle would be greatly appreciated. Seems like a good project but not sure if worth the time..... $:-\$ The trade also included a Ruger M77 Mark II in 7mm Rem Mag. Worst trigger I have ever experienced. Shot excellent groups with this trigger. Will be interesting to see what it does with a decent trigger.

The mark x is a great barreled action for a project rifle and should be well worth the time. Let me know if you want to get rid of it.

My 270 is a Winchester. It shoots tight groups. The Ruger is another great 270.

The interarms mkX is a much better action than the ATR. The one I have is a whitworth and it is really smooth...

It's a commercial FN Mauser design made under license in Serbia. Sold by a variety of importers over the years including Interarms, Charles Daly, and now Remington. The Whitworths are definitely the best, but most are fairly rough on the fit and finish. Too heavy for a 270 platform IMHO. Would make a great 35 Whelen or 338-06.

It will say Whitworth on it. The whitworths were assembled in Great Britian. When I bought mine it was a well worn 7mm remington magnum, but I was in the market for a standard length mauser with a magnum bolt face for a project. There is nothing wrong with the mark x, even if it isn't a whitworth.

Some of the standard Mark Xs have Whitworth, Manchester stamped on the side of the receiver, but the true Whitworths will have Whitworth stamped on the top of the forward bridge. I don't think they made any Whitworths in 270, but I could be wrong on that.

As k3yston3 says nothing wrong with the Zastava Mark Xs, but the Whitworths generally sell for quite a bit more. The Whitworths have a better fit and finish and as I understand it the stocks and barrels on most of them were produced in England.

Thanks guys, I will take a closer look at the gun when I get home. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think this rifle is what they call a 98 Mauser LR (long action). In looking at stocks and other parts for a possible upgrade they are usually not designated as Interarms Mark 10, but as 98 Mauser LR

I'm sure there are some here that can explain Mauser lineage better than I, but as I understand it the 98 Mauser is a military rifle that, while very similar, has notable differences from the Zastava action that you have that was imported by Interarms as the Mark X and the Whitworth. The "LR" means large ring, which refers to the diameter of the receiver ring. All '98s and their commercial clones are large ring. There are several commercial '98 clones, but the Zastava is manufactured to specs of the commercial FN design that among other things eliminates the thumb slot where military stripper clips were loaded and features a bent bolt handle rather than the straight one of the Mauser '98 Model. The Zastavas also use a completely different trigger and safety than the '98.

The rifle does not have Whitworth on it just Interarms Mark 10 Zastava Yugo. 270 Winchester. Did a major cleaning and the rifle cleans up extremely well. Stock and trigger are only issues. If I want to order a stock or trigger for this rifle what reference name besides Interarms Mark 10 is it possible to reference. I see 98 Mauser LR reference but sounds like this may be different than what I have.

Timney makes a replacement trigger for the Mark X. I cannot remember if I have thier trigger or not...I know that I don't have the deluxe as I went to a 3 position model 70 style safety on mine, but I do know that mcmillian, brown precision, bell and carlson, and others make stocks for the mark X. I think that most any 98 mauser stock will fit but you have to inlet for the trigger and side safety but I am not 100% sure on that... Ask the stock maker of your choice

I think you'll find there are lots of aftermarket goodies for the Mark Xs and that they are fairly easy to work on. As k3yston3 says many '98 Mauser stocks and other parts will fit the Mark Xs with minor fitting. Many stockmakers also make a "drop-in" for the Mark X. The triggers I've worked with were all adjustable to a nice crisp 3-4 lbs, but most of the major trigger makers have drop in replacements if you want to go that way. What I don't like is the safety on that trigger group, but there are several aftermarket 2 and 3 position bolt mounted alternatives for that as well.

Speaking of triggers, this trigger has an long travel before breaking. Did I understand you right, and this trigger is adjustable. While cleaning I was trying to figure out how it is attached and did not notice if it is adjustable. Did not see how it is attached either. If I can adjust it to 3#s with no travel I
don't see the need for an aftermarket trigger. $:-\$

I've had 2 of them so far,one in 243 and another in 300WM. Both triggers were easily adjusted. The guys I kow who own them won't sell them. The only reason I sold one of mine,the 300, was to put a roof on my house. One of these days, I'm gonna catch that guy short on some bucks, and hopefully buy back that rifle.

Ramline makes stocks for these. I think I have an extra (not Ramline) at the house. I'll check and get back with ya.

Correct me if I am wrong. From what everyone is saying the Interarms Mark 10 is the FN design with Large Ring. An additional question is whether most free float there sporter weight Mauser barrels. I usually end up free floating my rifles. I do know the Interarms Mark 10 came with one of two triggers. Adjustable and non adjustable, mine being a non adjustable. I am going to try and find an aftermarket trigger.Thanks for all the input, just learning about the Mauser

Range Report....
3 shots at 100 yards 1 1/4" with 130 Fed. factory ammo ($10 a box)
Looks promising considering factory non adjustable trigger (long travel), factory stock with pressure point, and Tasco 3 x 9 scope.
Looks like I'll keep it and try a few changes.........

DLEB - Not bad. The examples I've had all shot well. I'm sure if you tweak it a bit it will do even better.
