17 HMR Carbine Barrel
« on: May 08, 2003, 09:48:26 AM »
I am considering one of these in either 16" or 21" can someone tell me if they are all bull barrel configuration?

Thanks,
DonT

I believe the 16 is, the only 21" ones I have seen have been tapered. It looks like the new G2 barrels are bull but I don't know for sure. I would call TC and ask them.  KN

The 23" would be the new G2 barrel. I'm glad to hear they are bull type barrels. I never cared for the tapered contender barrels.  KN

I didn't care for the tapered barrels that much but put a 23 inch bull barrel and a Bullberry wood stock set together on a contender and its a heavy little thing.  Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet for all we have this week in SW Mo is storms.

FWIW, the optimum Contender carbine bull barrel length for the 17HMR is 19" - proven out by Fred at Bullberry (full report on his web site).   I have the prototype (first) 17HMR carbine barrel ever made for a TC, and my Bullberry is 20".     It hangs very well with the extra heavy custom stock set also done exhibition grade by Fred to commemorate the birth of the Hummer.   It shoots even better... best 5-shot 100 yard group so far for the No. 1 is .182".
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Ladobe your stock set is so pretty.  Please don't post a picture for every time I see a picture of it I want to hock my hippy mobile and order a  similar stock set.  Eating my heart out in SW Mo.
