32 w&w long
« on: February 14, 2007, 09:54:18 AM »
Can someone give me a few good websites to begin researching a S&W revolver that was my Dads? Really I would just like to know the approx date of manufacture of the gun and if this particular model was ever used as a duty model in the service or by police. We have a lot of law enforcement in the family, this might have even been my Grandpas gun.
The gun has SMITH&WESSON on one side of the barrel and 32 LONG CTG on the other.
Right side of gun has the  big S&W trademark with "reg us pat off" below it. Also on the right side "MADE IN USA"
                                                                                                                                         "MARCHAS REGISTRADAS"
                                                                                                                                         "SMITH&WESSON"
                                                                                                                                         "SPRINGFIELD.MASS"
Base of frame, bottom of handle, stamped  "C    51766"
Cylinder is stamped with same number  C  51766
inside of frame, under barrel and in front of the cylinder it is stamped "F  5"
"2219" The piece that connects the cylinder to the frame of the gun is marked with the same number.
The grips appear to be aftermarket made by "FRANZITE"
   Thanks for the help.

This is almost exactly what it looks like

The only difference that I can see from the photo is that the hammer on mine seems to ride a lot higher in the frame. You can see a lot more of it.
