... I know what it is but why would anyone put a beaver tail on a TDA/SA pistol?

Maybe it's just me, but I question the wisdom of this and don't see it as a desirable feature especially for concealed carry.

That was my thought too when I seen this.  Looks like some youngster that is in love with the 1911 slopped one in on them.  They sure ruined a fine carry gun with this design.

Nope they didn't ruin a fine carry gun.  That is the 229 Elite, just one version of the 229 line up.  Besides different color combos they sell the 229R (with rail), 229R Crimson Trace, 229 SAS and the 229 DAK.  Now if someone prefers the beacertail they can get one on a 229, if they don't they can still buy any of the other 229's.  Looks like a smart way to try and capture another part of the handgun market.

Thanks goes to jamie for knowing how to sift thru Sigs website. I chuckled a little when I realized that some of you thought they abandoned *all* of the other 229 variations in favor of JUST this one mentioned  :D

Local Sheriffs dept(next county over). just swapped to the 229 from older S&W's..
and not a single deputy qualified with them yet... I was shocked at the trigger pulls on them.
They are still carrying their old Smiths for the moment.
As these are the first we have dealt with of this model, I am looking for ways to make the pull better. Any helpful wisdom here?

The trigger pull can be improved.  But, for police use the Sig DAK trigger system may be better for you.  It is double action all the time, but is very very smooth and much lighter.  Sig can convert your P pistols to DAK.
