Anyone have experience with a Kimber Varmint Rifle?
« on: February 12, 2007, 04:38:41 AM »
I have an opportunity to buy a used unfired Kimber M84 Varmint rifle in 22-250 with walnut stock and a Leuplod 4-12 Scope.
This gun is basically new, it has never been fired.
They are asking $995.00 for it.
I plan on using it for varmints, mostly woodchucks in the North East.
After I retire (in a couple of years), I would like go west for a couple of weeks and shoot prairie dogs.
If anyone has any experience with this model, I would appreciate some feedback.
Thanks,

Kimber makes some incredible rifles...and the guys I know that have them swear by them...A nice Leupold scope on it is just some icing for the cake if you ask me...The only "bad" I have heard about them...is that they take a long time for repairs...otherwise...if You like it...I would go for it..They run that much here...without the scope..

If I had a spare grand lying around, I'd be all over that set-up.  RIFLE magazine did an article on the Kimber Varmint when it came out a few years ago, and it shot like crazy, hot or cold, clean or dirty.  Brian Pierce did the the write-up, and he said it was one of the best 22-250's he's ever worked with.

I have three Kimber rifles now. I bought the first one, an 8400 Classic Varmint in 204 Ruger, and put a Leupold VX-L 4.5 X 14 with the varmint reticle on it and promptly took it out to shoot some of our local prarie dogs. It was and is the most accurate, most fun rifle I have ever owned. I have since gotten rid of the Colt and Bushmaster varmint rigs I had been shooting. The Kimber will print groups at 100 yards from sandbags that I have never gotten with any other rifle. Period. This performance led me to buy two more Kimbers, a Custom Select in 300 WSM and a Custom in 270 WSM and with Zeiss glass on both, they are shooting REAL well too. If you can get that package for that price, I'd say take it. Quick. And when you get ready to come out west to kill some prarie dogs, give me a holler.
Perception is everything. For instance, a crowded elevator smells different to a midget.
