need to lock up my guns
« on: February 11, 2007, 02:06:08 PM »
hi, a few years ago a friend of mine had a neat set up in his closet. it was a standing gun rack that was bolted to the wall in his closet, but had a bar go through the mount that locked the guns in place. does anyone know where i can find something like that? he has since replaced it with a safe and donated the old rack. thanks!

Great idea.  Beats putting them under the bed until you can get a safe!

You might think about a small stack on brand safe that's small enough to fit in your closet.  They are made of wall locker type sheet metal and sell for around $100.......They can be bolted to the wall and floor inside your closet as they are fairly small.......

I had a gunsafe that was made of the sheet metal described by victorcharlie. Had it bolted to a wall to make it even stronger. A meth tweeker peeled it open and made off with all of my guns in less than 30 minutes. Get a real safe.

ANY WAY IT IS 60" WIDE AND 72 " HIGH AND 28" DEEP AND WAYS 1,600 # . IF SOMEONE D O E S GET IN THEY WILL NOT COVER THE GUNS BUT WILL REPLACE THE SAFE .

Yup, it really pays to ask all the questions you can.  My insurance made me buy a rider for my guns AND accessories.  Anything over $500 has to be listed seperately on the policy.  I keep 3 or 4 pictures of each gun and a list of make, model, type, caliber, what it's made of and serial number for everything.  Also keep track of where it came from and how I aquired it.  All of that information stays in two places.  One computer at home and on a CD and then I email it to myself and keep it at work too.  All the guns are currently in a Browning Medallion Wide that weighs about 1200 lbs empty.  Sits in a garage at my in-laws with a wooden cabinet around it and then blocked in tightley on two sides by my old Suburban that we leave in the US while overseas.  Gotta get in the garage (not too hard) and then you gotta move the Suburban (harder to do, no battery), then break open the wood cabinet, THEN you have to deal with the 1500 pounds of safe and contents.  Could be done but it would take some real work and a bit of time.
