How about a little information from you guys who have a Contender barrel in this chambering. I am wondering what type of performance to expect with .410 shells. Does it throw a good enough pattern for instance to kill a rabbit at 15 yards or so. What length barrel is best, 10" or 14"? Interested in any and all comments. Thanks.

I had a 10" and sold it and now have a S16 with the vent rib.  I have never patterned it with paper, but it will put a lot of holes in a 2 liter pop bottle at 20 yards.  I do shoot skeet with it every now and then.  I can gernerally hit 2 or 3 out of 5 with it which I am happy with.  From what I have heard from others it is works on rabbits and squirrels okay within 20 yards.  I plan on hunting squirrels with it and a 22 Contender this fall since I sold my bow and am going to enjoy fall in more ways than sitting in a tree stand for a month and half this year.

I have a barrel in the 14" length and I have shot quite afew crows with mine. I have no doubts about it killing squirrels or cottontails out to twenty yards or even farther.  Mine seems to pattern better with the smaller shot sizes with 7 1/2 being its favorite.  I am going to buy a bag of #7 shot and reload some shells with it.  Its not commercially loaded  in the states anymore,but appears small enough to work well in the small tube.

Fun with Rabbits

I have a blued 14" vent rib, I only shoot 3" 410 # 6 shot (Factory and the ones I reload, but factories pattern better than my reloads) And I have no problems limiting out with my beagles on bunnies, I keep the shoots under 20 yards.  If I had to do it over again I would have gone with a shorter barrel. All I can say is when you limit out on cotton tails with a hangun, Now that is fun!

I like the 10" barrel, the 14" barrel seems to handle slugish. The action on rabbits can be fast and close, and the 10" barrel seems faster to get up and swing on target. I put a HIVIZ 'Premanent Front Competition Sight' (PM1002) on it. The bright, glowing sight draws my eyes to the sight, and lets me get on target much quicker then the stock silver bead. It was easy to install. I removed the stock bead, and one of the screws that came with the sight fit perfect.  I like #6 shot. I've killed rabbits to 35 yds., but it seems best within 30 yds. I reload my hulls. I use Hardened Shot, it produces better patterns and kills game better then the soft chilled shot. If you don't reload, Federal uses hardened shot in their 3" shells.The 45/410 barrels produce a tight pattern, like a full choke. When shooting at a target, I aim the gun like I'm trying to hit the target with a single projectile, instead of a load of pellets. The 45/410 is one of my most favorite barrels, it's really fun to hunt and plink with.  8)
