.17HMR/.17M2 rechamber to .17Rem

Hi all,

Just pondering things this morning as I read through some posts and throwing out an idea.   I love my Handi's and I'm thinking about a .17 Rem for varmint hunting.  Just wondering if it's possible to rechamber a .17HMR/.17M2 barrel to the .17 Rem centerfire with the H&R barrels?    This would most likely include changing out the ejector/extractor to a centerfire extractor, and is it possible to buy just the parts since the case on a .17 Rem is basically a necked down .223?

If that is possible, do you think H&R would fit a .17HMR barrel (rimfire) to an SB2 frame if they were told about a rechamber to .17 Rem?

This re-chamber has been done before with mixed results , and H&R will not fit a 17 rimfire barrel to a CF frame .

The handi already has a good fur round (at least for coyotes) and thats 204 ruger.

That said fittings probably the big issue, the one documented conversion sounded like alot of the problem was bad lock up, sounded like there was extrator differences too.

A lower intensity 17 might work like 17 ackely hornet.

I figured someone had to have tried this before.   I'm going to take a better look at the .204.
