.500 S&W Encore Pistol
« on: February 06, 2007, 03:01:46 PM »
Does anyone have one of these, and if so, what do you think?
How is the recoil, accuracy, etc?

Anything I need to know before I shoot mine?  It should be in next week.

Mine is a 15" with compensator and a 2x Leupold mounted with weaver rings (3) and a lot of locktite. Stock is regular wood. Seems to shoot ok but accuracy wasn't what I expected however have only shot magtech 275s and the light loads in it. Accuracy at 30 yds was about inch and a half which wasn't all that good. I expect that to improve a lot as I test more ammo and start reloading(a necessity). Recoil was stiff but not unbearable and I did not feel that the recoil affected accuracy. It is LOUD.

I have the 15" with muzzletamer. I have a 4x Burris with the T'SOB base with 6-screws and 4-rings. The reason for the strong setup is the initial setup was installed with a Contender Warne base instead of the Encore Warne base (different diameter barrels). Incorrect packaging by the supplier/reseller. Without sufficient thread engagement the entire assembly busted loose and creamed me in the forehead! See my earlier posts for pictures. Now, I shoot it without fear...well, maybe just a little more respect than my other heavy hitters. Accuracy has improved with practice since the recoil is stiff  :o I wear shooting gloves to soften the recoil and ear protection as the report is indeed LOUD.  :)

I have a 10" plus a muzzle brake. Current load is a 300 grain HP @ about 2000 fps. Practical accuracy is OK. It seems that any change in my grip or trigger release, moves the impact around a bit more than with other, lighter recoiling firearms. I have a 2x Leupold on it, which also depresses the accuracy a bit when ranges lengthen. However, it is plenty accurate when I do my part, I think it's just a big boomer and not the easiest thing for me to shoot well every time. I suspect that it is shooting better than I am. I can generally get 5 into about 4" or less @ 100 yards off a rest. PLENTY good enough for its intended use, and an excuse to practice with it more often.
A blast to shoot --- literally. It is VERY loud and about takes my ball cap off. I wear 2 game ears when hunting with this and other handguns for ear protection without losing my ability to hear as when using normal plugs.

Enjoy it!
