Surplus S&Ws, you've got to be kidding? Never saw one that would last on a dealers case, for long, unless, it was priced too high.

I have seen several different models advertised in Shotgun News for reasonable prices.  Recently there were Police trade ins Model 10s for $149.00, with select grades going for $159.00.  That is not a bad price if you have a dealer that will transfer at a reasonable fee.

Next time you are in Wally world stroll past the magazine rack and check out a copy of "Shotgun News,"  who knows someone may have Smiths for sale.

I don't know about police surplus.....I don't think there are a lot of police that use S&W's anymore. But I've noticed  it's true about the rest of their guns, especially revolvers. My oldest son is interested in a 629, so the gun counter is the first place I go to everytime I go into Gander Mountain or some other local gun store. Generally,  there are lots of used handguns including many  revolvers, but very few if any Smiths(locks or no locks). Last time I was at G.M., I asked the guy behind the counter about it. He said many used Smiths never make it to the counter, and those that do are gone quickly.
"where'd you get the gun....son?"

Check out CDNN too.  They will buy out an entire gun store and put the used guns on their web site.  You will need a FFL holder to order the gun for you, but even then there are some fairly good deals to be had.

Our department traded away 6 model 19's with 4" barrels in the original factory blue cardboard boxes for, this will make you cry, 2 Mossberg 590 shotguns without the speedfeed stocks. Our range master/ "gun expert" talked our chief into this deal. It worked out to something around $125.00 per revolver. Sweet deal for the shop that received them. I heard that he was selling them for around $350.00 to $400.00 each.

I just ordered a matte stainless model 64 with a 3" barrel for $320 from CDNN. They are listed as excellent to like new condition. They are marked CYA for "California Youth Authority."  I like to think CYA stands for "Cover your AZZZ!"

I hear they are in great shape. I plan on making it a CCW piece.
