.475 moderate load using HS-6?
« on: February 04, 2007, 10:39:42 AM »
Hello, folks!

I'm still "learning" my new-to-me FA .475. I remember reading somewhere on here about some very accurate loads using 400-gr.-range bullets using HS-6 powder. Now that I have finally picked up some HS-6, I can't find the load information. Can someone here tell me what works for them, or point me to the right information?

Thanks, friends, I appreciate the help! Regan

The Feb '07 issue of Handloader has a short write up by Brian Pierce on loading the 475. Loads he shows using HS-6 follow:

400 gr Cast Perf WFN over 15gr @ 1125 fps
401 (maybe a typo?) gr Cast Perf LFN GC over 13 grs @1003 fps (he writes that 9 gr of W231 @ 915 fps is very accurate with this bullet)
420 gr Cast Perf LFN GC over 15 gr @ 1140 fps
400 gr Speer Gold Dot over 15 grs @ 1045 fps
400 gr Hornady XTP-Mag over 15 grs @ 1078 fps

Gun used was a 6" FA, all loads with standard large pistol primers.
