Work in progress....
« on: February 04, 2007, 06:57:03 AM »
Hey yall. I took my .22 Mag Sportster out again today to see if the sight corrections I made helped any on target. I ran 60 rnds through it, and it still seems to be shooting to the left a little, and a bit low. I am getting a little frustrated and disappointed with this rifle. I like the rifle overall, but not the accuracy of it. It will either hit the left of the target and low, or short of hitting the target. I adjusted the rear sight elevator, but it doesnt seem to help much. I need to get a good target stand set up with a proper target on it instead of trying to sight it in on cans and jugs. It just doesnt make sense....it isnt half as accurate as my Model 60 at current. I dont think it is me either, as I can put rnds through my Model 60 exactly where I want 'em. I am now contemplating putting a scope or red dot sight on it instead of just leaving it with open sights. Any opinions, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I too have found that the iron sights on the Sportster leave a lot to be desired , by all means go with a scope , something like the Banner 3x9 or even a cheap Tasco will make a world of diffrence in how the rifle shoots .

Also get a paper tarcet and find out what type 3 shot groups you are getting , cans are fun but will not tell you much as far as how accurate the rifle is .

Mine with a 3x9 will shoot under 3/4 at 100 with Remington ammo but will throw CCIs all over the place , so it could be the ammo too .

I mean I checked over the rear sight base, and it is centered pretty dang good. And I do know that when I shoot I usually pull to the right a little, so I know it cant be me. But a red dot would be a nice addition....

Well yall I got my wood stock in yesterday for my Sportster and installed it. Looks great, really revives my interest in getting it to shoot right. So I'm just gonna keep workin with it, and see what I can do before gettin a scope or somethin.

Ok guys, after looking closely again and again, I have resolved that the rear sight base seems to be slightly bent when sizing it up in comparison to the barrel and the front size. Something just doesnt look totally right. Has anyone else noticed something like this on their Sportster? I mean I dont know if thats the way it is, or if it is actually a defective rear sight base, etc. Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

I had a red dot on my 22lr sportster and shoots great. Though initially I had a problem  holding groups with cci stingers and velocitors. Swithed to remington by the bucket and groups are .5 inch hand held with the red dot. good luck.
