win.mod 70 quality?
« on: February 04, 2007, 04:37:52 AM »
does anyone know if the mod.70 that is now being made is as good in guality as they used to be. i really love the look and feel, and balance of the mod. 70,but recent problems with winchester and changing owners have me worried about the current quality of the rifles now being produced.any thoughts will be much appreciated

Who is making the model 70 ? as far as I know they shut down production March of last year. I did look at m70 win classic yesterday new probably one of the last produced it had tight spot when closing bolt and a plastic case foller in the mag.

The last couple of years production are a gamble.  They were made on out-dated machinery and from what've I read, the workers really didn't put their best into them.  If the price was right, I'd buy and keep it just to see if they increase in value.

In 2000 I wanted to buy a lever action rifle in 30-30 and went to my local gunstore to pick up a Winchester 94, the stock was so poorly machined that it wiggled when touched, to the rest of the gun.  Never should have left the factory like that.  Bought a Marlin 30-30 instead.  I did not think much of the way their bolt actions looked, at least not the budget models.  Not surprised that the factory was closed.

I have 2 Winchester Super Shadows, 270 and 300 WSM's. Both accurate ( 3/4") and quality is excellent.
