Reaming 45-70 throats?

  I,m sure this has been covered, but it is my understanding that it is a simple job to ream the throats, which are very short, to allow a longer bullet to be used.  How do you reccomend this to be done, and how much does it cost?  Thanks.

Get a throat reamer from 4-D, take the barrel off the rifle. Use a tap Stock/Wrench or chuck to hold the reamer. Flood the reamer and chamber with cutting oil. Twist it until it reaches the desired depth (.200-240"). Remove it to clear the chips every couple of turns.

Thank you gentlemen, I am certainly impressed with how fast questions get answered on this forum!  What is the general consensus of accuracy after the reaming?  Better?  Same?  Thanks again.

Accuracy is excellent, but you'll probably have to work up new loads as they might not shoot the same. The target below was shot right after  throating my BC, at 100yds. I also lost about 50-75fps in my 2425fps 300gr Nosler load. The load below ran 2027fps in the 32" barrel, about 1850fps in the 22" barrel, both after the throating.

Thanks again, the only thing that would keep me from doing the mods would be if you traded off too much accuracy.  It doesn't look like yours suffered!

Nope, just a little velocity with the 300gr loads, but that can be compensated for with an adjustment to COL and a bit more powder.
