use 460 brass for 45 colt loads in 45/410
« on: February 01, 2007, 08:15:25 AM »
I'm thinking of using some 460 s&w brass ,and load my 45 colt to 45 colt max  data with H110. The longer brass would bring the bullet in closer to the lands by about a 1/2 inch, and hopefully would help in the accuracy dept.Has anyone tried this before? Tha load will loaded to max 45 colt pressures , not 460. Thanks for replies

I have pondered the same thing..I was wondering if it would be necessary to use a filler or would it be okay without..

I would not do it, H 110 powder need to fill most of the case. You are asking for problems and could blow up your gun. Even with lower powder charges you can get over pressure.

I remember someone trying something similar a while ago.  I don't think it worked particularly well, but I don't really remember.  He called it something like .45 Mongo.

If you could find a suitable powder I don't see why not. But as stated before, H-110 would not be a good choice. H-110 is warned against using below listed loads, and with that much extra case capacity I think you could have real problems. I also assume you are talking about an Encore here and not a Contender? I woud not attempt this in a Condender.    KN

I've had that same thoughts about filling up the chamber of the 45/410 barrel.  But I was doing it to better the accuracy.  The power factor is what I had expected.  But, my group size is poor.  Compared to other contender barrels.  What can I expect?  23 grns H-110 300 speer...?

I still would not do it, but hay, it's your gun and your hand.  ::)
