mp40
« on: January 31, 2007, 09:27:08 AM »
I just bought a mp40 with night sights for 550 new, just wanted to know what others thought of the gun, I haven't shot it yet, I plan on it soon. I have been a fan of the XD for a long time but the MP fit the hand and felt alot better hence the reason behind the purchase. Any thoughts would be great good or bad.

You bought the gun, then asking what others think???  Not making fun of you man ;)  I have done this with a revolver. I picked one up and I was thinking about the XD line also.  I like smith and I wanted to stay with them.  I have fired about 100 rounds out of it and it is a sweet shooter.  I have tried two different types of ammo and they went thru great!  I bought the package 40cal (holster, mag. holster, and one extra mag).  I changed the grips, but I seem to like the medium ones.  I did field strip it and put a little extra oil in some spots.  Their is a forum just for the M&P line by smith.  I can't find the address right now.  I have been on it, the only thing is some people get a trigger job so the trigger is a little better.  I am going to fire a few more boxes out of mine before I do anything to it.  I hope this helps :)

lol no pun intended red, I had only talked to one person about the pistol and have read every review I could find I just wanted to see what others thought that weren't gun writers andsomeoen I didn't know. When I bought my 500 there wasn't anyone around that could tell me much about them. I almost got the xd but to me the slide is even blockier then a glock the grip is better but the MP fel alo nicer and honestly I don't think smith would make a third polymer gun that was gonna be a flop so to speak. My buddy just bought the XD 45 compact up until now we both had the same carry gun (glock 30) I still like the 30 so I didn't feel the need for another compact. I've also thought about getting a light to mount on the rail. the glock lights will fit just I really can't find any info other then the site on them. Thanks for the reply.

I hear ya about the 500.  I picked up my 460 (which I love) and I didn't know anyone that had one.  I went by the reviews and as a reloader I went with it also becuase of the fun of shooting three different loads out of it.  I have no regrets with it.  I take it hunting with me, sad thing is I didn't see anything worth shooting >:(  After you fire a few rounds out of your m&P check out their new sub-compact.  I have talked to a few guys and they seem to like theirs.  One was carrying a glock 30 :o  I fired that model 99 smith made with walther.  It had some neat features, but I didn't really like it.  Hope you like it ;D

I have an mp40 with just over 2k rounds thru it. It's a great all around shooter. I've shot many types of ammo thru it with no issues. It just asks for more. The low bore axis helps with the recoil as well.
I use it for a range toy and the occasional IDPA shoot.

OK I've never done a trigger job to a auto before many revolvers but not a auto how hard is it to do a trigger job on the MP? I'm really mechanically inclined and I'm a machinist to boot. Figureing it out won't be that hard but I thought I'd ask.

I have a buddy do mine :), but on the mpforum that sphpkr gave on the full size mp spot you might have to do a little looking, but a guy gives a detail way of doing it.  People do them to glocks and XD's I think the MP wouldn't be much different from them.  Hope this helps.

Tahnks red I'll look into it it doesn't seem like it would be that hard to do. OK I have found one thing I seriously dislike so far about the mp I don't know if it's just the particular round I bought or what but in all three Clips once you fill it past 8 rounds there is one round that stays loose in the cliup and rattles back and fourth. Anyone else exsperienced this? If so what did you do to fix it?

That I am not sure about.  Call smith and see what they say.  They will probably give you a new one.

According to Smith they really aren't gonna deal with the issue. on the MP webpage, there are alot of people haveing the same issue as myself but the pistols are still from what they say rock solid reliable. Oh well i guess I'll just have to deal with it. I still love the fell of the gun and the only time I really hear it is if I'm doing jumping jacks when it's in the holster. but I don't want it to give me away if I ever have to clear my house so to speak.

I have an MP9, After the first time I shot it I immediately sold my last Glock, a G17.

After shooting it a few more times, I bought an MP9c to go with it.

As far as I'm concerned the M&P series are the best of the plastic framed pistols.

Anyone shot the .45 acp  yet.  The only thing holding me away from the smith is the way the xd throws these slugs! :o

The 45 is not out yet.  The word on the street is sometime in the next month.

I have a MP40 and a MP 9mm compact. Love these guns! The compact is almost as accurate as the full sized 40 caliber. I was considering buying a 1911 but instead I'll be buying the 45 caliber MP when it is available at a decent price. ;D

Not to change the subject, but, I received a Uplula universal, pistol, magazine loader, yesterday that I had ordered and tried it on several of my pistols including a 380 single stack and several calibers of double stacks and it worked perfectly on all of them! If you want a universal magazine loader you might try it. I ordered mine from; www.eguns.com
