Bullet Application and CXP' Rating
« on: January 30, 2007, 01:43:24 PM »
hello group,

i wonder what luck anybody has had using 130 grain Winchester Power Points in the .270 caliber on deer, black bear, hogs, or elk.   J. O'Connor used to use a Power-Point bullet but it may have changed since he wrote about it in 1978.    i also want to know, not finding it on the web and my old catalog being gone, what is the "CXP" rating of that 130 gr' Power Point.

thank you,

The 130 grain PP is all I use in my .270. I only hunt deer and it has never failed me. Not big exit wounds in my experience, but enough for good blood trail if hit in the right place. I use the 150 grain in my .308 and 30-06 with good results. The boxes say CXP2 for Light, Thin Skinned game.

...I shoot 130's and 150's in my .270, no matter folds deer like i'm packing for a trip.
...there are many kinds of wounded, and only one kind of dead. Do it the Handi way, one shot, one kill.

i guess i'll use the Power Points for shooting practice and the Core-Lokt's for our (hopeful) bear hunt.   my son-in-law has a pretty strong itch to hunt bear!

thank you for the replies.
