WOW
« on: January 30, 2007, 11:22:17 AM »
In preparation for my new .243 ultra that is coming tommorow i have been reading ALOT about breaking in new barrels, lapping ect.
So i decided to give my Ruger Mark II a good cleaning and holy crap.  I bought some foaming bore cleaner and man that thing was nasty it took me and hour and a half of patching to get it clean but finnaly after a few hundred patches and some rem oil it was shinning like a new penny. This gun has always been pretty acurate but this was the result I got after a good scrubbing.

Good work, but I think you'll find that if you foam the bore, then leave it set overnight, you'll use a lot less patches and elbow grease in cleaning. ;) The procedure with Hoppe's Elite and WipeOut below works extremely well. :)

Now that you know how much time and effort it takes to clean a nasty bore the hardway.

Next time get a tube of Blue Wonder Gun Cleaner and bronze brush.

Soak the brush with goop, ten strokes thru, take a ten minute break.

then ten more strokes with the brush. and patch clean.

Once it's wiped out dry, oil it up right quick.

IF that don't have everything out of it.  Do it a second time this way and it will be.

Just make sure to oil it good soon as it's wiped out good so it won't flash rust from moisture in the air.

you'll never go back to doing it the way you did again.

Keep it off the wood stocks or it'll take all the finish off too.

IF you have an old stock and want to refinish it, or take the oil out of an old military mess.
Soak and wipe it down with BLue Wonder and it'll be clean to the wood.

This is the best gun cleaner I've ever found in over 50 yrs of shooting bp, shotguns and cleaning up old junkers.  It'll take rust off too.

And so little effort.
