case's won't eject
« on: January 28, 2007, 12:56:37 PM »
i ve been having some case's sticking with some of my handloads. im neck sizing the brass & using the starting loads. they are very accurate, but 1 outta 3 is sticking ,is this a psi problem ? my loads for my .270 handi - 110 gr v-max over 54 gr h4350...130 gr speer sp over 56 gr h4381...150 gr interlock over 55 gr reloader 22 . im using cci lr primers & rp brass. they all shoot great!!! but im tired of running a wood dowel down the pipe to knock out the brass . do y'all think these loads are to hot ??    -  thanks -

Have ya polished the chamber yet? That usually solves the problem, info can be found in the FAQs and Help sticky, your loads appear to be reasonable compared to Hodgdon data for like bullet weights, and look good in the Hornady book. You may also have to full length size to bump the shoulder back a tad, which might help in addition to the polish job.

You can also improve ejector performance by cleaning and polishing the ejector and housing, then installing a BB ahead of the ejector spring to increase ejector pressure, that info is in the FAQs also.

How many times is the brass reused?  It will grow in length every time you fire it and resize, eventually getting into the throat.
just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they are not watching you

kennyd

I get 3 or 4 loadings before i have to trim the brass , with my 223s i get 7 or 8 loads before the brass starts to show signs of being worn out , with my 22-250 i get about 5 or 6  total .

I have some 45/70s that have been loaded 10 times woth no signs of getting bad and some 45LCs that have been loaded over 20 times .

....I just finished polishing my .223 heavy chamber, lapped and polished the barrel. The 1st round I tested in it, when I broke it open, the casing flew 5 yds. behind me. My son & I got a chuckle out of it.

how are you resizing, I ran into issues with repeated neck size only with a 243.  To the extent that eventually the brass will not even let the action lock, thats when full length or partial full lenght was required.

...I haven't tried this on a Handi yet, but I do it for my bolt actions when relaoding. I "cam" the rounds before crimping.
