hangfire 45/70 loads

I’m looking for suggestions on my Trapdoor 45/70 load.  It consists of a light load of Re#7 under a Rem. 300HP with a standard Winchester primer.  The problem is that ever so many rounds I get definite pop-bang with a separate primer detonation and then the main charge goes off.  In some forums I have seen suggestion of using a dacron fill over the powder and under the bullet.  What kind of dacron are they talking about and isn’t dacron a synthetic fiber that would melt and perhaps leave residue in the barrel?  I know nothing about this so I am just inquiring.  Another suggestion was to use magnum primers in these loads to insure quicker ignition of the powder.  Another was to always tap the cartridge so the powder comes to rest against the primer before firing it.  I do not have this problem when I shoot Marlin loads of Re#7 in either My Handi or my 1895.  Suggestions accepted.

If it's only in the Springfield, check your firing pin strike....it may be too light. If it's OK, switch to SR-4759 for light to med loads. Stay away from fillers; you run the risk of ringing the chamber and they aren't necessary with SR-4759 or RE-7.

It took me a while to get back to you with the loads.  The trapdoor loads, which I shoot mostly in my Handi, are 35G of Re #7.  This is the load I am having hangfires with.  When I up the load to 50G of #7 I have no problems in either rifle.  What I am wondering about is with the large case and small amount of powder, is the powder on some rounds positioning itself toward the front of the cartridge and thus the hangfire?  Would the hotter magnum primer help on this?

I brought up the topic of reduced volume ( machined cases with thick walls)to get the load density up on light loads but was told that this was never required for the 45/70. I guess 'never' is  a long time. 35 grains is not below the minimum trapdoor load so maybe all you need is the magnum primers. Why not increase the charge a little to increase load density? In cold weather ball powders can be harder to light-up so may be this is playing into the matter.
