Musings of an Old Fool
« on: January 28, 2007, 03:11:28 AM »
Yesterday I was in the "Men's Store" where I buy a lot of guns. On the "orphan/widow" rack sat an old Weatherby Vanguard. It was chambered in 300 Winchester I believe. It had a nice Weatherby scope on it too. It was a way 1950/60s retro Hollywoodish looking hunting rifle. It isn't the kind of thing I would normally be attracted to, but I think if I'd had the money I would have rescued her. They were only asking $550.00. There were a few marks on the stock where the previous husband/boy friend had slapped her around a bit but she was still pretty. Nostalgia is a dangerous thing. If it would have been a .30-06, my wife would be kicking my butt for using the charge card

Nothing wrong with forming your own rifle "rescue" shelter.

Just remember being old has its advantages and we can blame a lot of ‘stuff’ on that.

I'll admit to "helping" a few orphans myself.

I have never been attracted to those old Weatherbys or .300's.  But, something in this thread and the nostalgic side of me would like to see that rig and maybe even give it a home.  I must be mellowing in my old age.

I used to run an adoption service for those orphans. Bought 'em cheap at gunshows cause they didn't shoot all that well. Tuned 'em up and took 'em back the next year with the report cards (targets). Financed a couple of huntin' trips in  a far off spot that way.  ;)

It ain't all it's made out to be. Sometimes right in the middle of museing, you forget what you were museing about

EDIT:

See there, I forgot my period.  " . "

Don, completely off subject, I'm getting to that point too!   Since my recent heart attack I've taken more pills than I did in all my previous life.

The wife has metered out the pills for both of us into clearly labeled boxes with 28 slots but I still don't get it right some days.  My question is, can an occasional dose of estrogen cause an old man to develope boobs?  Sure hope not, but I guess we'll soon see!
