Which .22 Hornet should I buy
« on: January 27, 2007, 06:04:35 PM »
Hello,

No way to inspect one of those rifle before placing my order. Need your advice!
Which of the three models, wood, black synthetic or black synthetic light should I shoot? Are the barrels different?
Do they all come with a scope rail. What type of scope rail do I need to mount my 1' Weaver.

Thank you very much for your help

Martin

All of the options are on the H&R web site, unless you get the scoped version, none of the 22 Hornets come with a scope rail, they all come with sights and are drilled and tapped for the rail which can be purchased separately from H&R, it's listed in their store. You only have 3 choices in scope rails, the two from H&R and the Weaver #82, info on them can be found in the FAQs and Help sticky.

I've had good luck with the wood & the synthetic stocked hornet.Never shot the light weight, some have had trouble getting them to shoot well, bet someone with experience with them will let you know for sure.

As far as I can tell NEF ships nothing across the border, but I got my Scope rail and hammer extension from Wholsale and I think SIR has got both as well. I have the super light and to this point I have tried 2 types of factory and no hondloads yet and even when I did check for accuracy I was getting 1.25-1.5 for 3 @ 100 on a really windy day, and a 3-9 rimfire scope.

I got the superlight because it is a trainer for my boys and I figure that since the 22 hornet is niether very violent nor will heat up alot, so I figured it is the least likly to have the typical superlight ailments. The scope rail seems to hang over the edge more than normal. If the gun was just for me I would have got one with a wood stock because if you have forearm issues the wood is supposed to be easier to tune (this is my first sythetic stock handi)
