Weatherby Vanguard "Gun of the Year" - Anybody heard of this?
« on: January 27, 2007, 03:39:18 PM »
I was in a shop looking at guns yesterday and was handed a Weatherby Vanguard in a green with black webbing stock and was told it was their "gun of the year" model. Never heard that one before and never had seen the stock configuration on on OTB Vanguard before. It was synthetic, forest green, black spiderweb, nice cheekpiece molded into the left side. Handle nice and felt really good. I'm wondering if that is a B&C Medalist stock or the standard Carbelite. Anybody else seen one of these? Standard Vanguard barreled action with the 24" barrel, but the stock has me thrown. Price was $459 before taxes.

Yes, I believe that is a B&C Medalist with the aluminum bedding block. Should make a fine combo.

If that is the Medalist stock then that is a HECK of a deal ain't it? The stock alone is around $250 as an upgrade. I have a 30-06 Vanguard syn/blue that's stock and it's one of my best shooters.
May have to exchange some tax returns for this "gun of the year". It's a .243, just what I want to add next to the biggest aggravation in my wife's life..........my gun collection.  ;D

It's just a name Weatherby has given to these special models of the Vanguard.  I'm not sure if it's a B&C stock or not.  You'd have to check the website.  They should be shooters....most Vanguard/Howa rifle are.

I bought one last year that was black with red "spiderweb" in 223 its a heavy barrel varminter they called it the red mist. I really like it, it shoots very well, feels god and they are fairly reasonable. I'd try it you will probably be happy.
