I own a .300 Whisper and the recoil is mild when loaded with 125 grain pills.  I have never shot a .30 Herret..as far as velocity is concerned you might get some info by checking out reloading data for the two.  just run a search on both rounds and compare like bullet weights.

I've owned both and kept the Whisper.  Velocity is about the same maybe and edge to the Herrett but my SSK 300 Whipser barrel was more accurate than the 30 herrett.  Forming brass for the Herret is to much work.  The Whisper all it is is running the 221 Fireball case into the die and your done, no trimming.
The only thing you should feel when shooting insurgents is recoil.

I like my .30 Herrett it's very accurate, I believe it has an edge in velocity and it has a rimmed case. I very much prefer a rimmed case for single shots. I also have a custom shop barrel that started out as a 14" .300 Whisper but is now a .308 Predator. JMHO !

I vote for the Whisper.  I have a 10" and a 20" carbine. If you don't reload, Cor-Bon makes very accurate Whisper ammo.

i thought the whisper looked good, but you see conflicting velocity claims.  i've seen as low as 2000fps with 125 grain bullets to as high as 2400fps with 125's.  i have a 24" 300 whisper barrel that came with the contender i bought which i'm planning on cutting down to 12" for a pistol barrel.  i also thought of just selling it and buying a 30 herret barrel for less which is why i asked the question.  the 300 whisper does seem like an interesting round though.

I have both, the Herret is a little faster. The Whisper is easier to reform and load.I do not think any suitable game would know the difference.
The Herret  must be trimed and formed and then you can load. To me the Whisper has a little less recoil, but neither has a lot of objectionabl recoil.

 I like and shoot both.

I LOVE to do the oddball cartridges that have to be reworked over from other cartridges.

 Hence my selection of barrels include;
 300 whisper, 30 & 357 Herret, 7-30 waters, 270 REN, 22ccm,445 supermag. 375 JDJ. And some others, but you get the idea.
 Some you can now buy factory loads, but I bought them before that was an option.

My opinion is , do you like the idea of reforming the brass or not, if you do go w/ Herret, if
not go w/whisper. At the range or in the field both go boom.

I goofed!
 I forgot to say that you can fire form the whisper w/o running thru a die first using a fast powder and cornmeal. Then load as normal. I had less loss to brass spliting this way, unless I ran 2-3 different expanders thru the neck in an ascending order in size.
Good luck , You will enjoy which ever you choose>
