Screw taps on 223 Super 14
« on: January 22, 2007, 06:17:19 AM »
Bought a Super 14 .223 Rem barrel at a gun show with iron sights. The barrel jumped off the table at me, so brought it home. Shoots great, but I need scope for the old eyes. Removed the rear iron sight and found the center 2 taps for the sight were verrrry shallow. The outer 2 taps are smaller and filled????  I have a scoped 10" match .22lr and the 4 taps are identical. Any suggestions.  Thanks.  Don

Two possibilities here.  T/c did have trouble with consistent hole depth at one time.  But I have also seen the holes filled with locktite.  The seem to locktite the rear sights on at the factory (or a previous owner had a scope on it).  I have had to dig crap out of the bottom of the holes before with something sharp because the holes appeared to shallow, but were really just full of crap.

Reminded me of a joke I heard.  Blonde Lady's BMW was running rough so she stopped at a gas station to have the mechanic fix it.  She left the car with the mechanic and when she came back he had it running like new again.  The lady asked what the problem was.  The mechanic said "crap in the carburetor".  The Blonde Lady said "How often do I have to do that?"   ;D
