Borescope

Has anyone made a borescope for their cannon(s)? What did you use for optics? I have a few telescopes that I thought would work because of their long adjustments but not for real close veiwing. I have the complete cannoneer book but it is not clear about the optics other than a tank periscope that is not that easy to get or cheap.

I have plans somewhere. I'll look. I just think it uses a mirror?

I'm workin' on one now.
Golfball bore---Mount a mirror at 45 degrees in a pvc ell that will slide into the bore , mount two -three of those blue/white LEDS in the outer edge pointing down the bore and paint the portions that are visable trough the mirror black. add a battery-resistor & Switch +a glass cover to keep out dirt and I Think it will work! (tell you later) My bore is only 15" deep so I don't need fancy optics.

Thanks Guys, I knew about the general construction, pcv pipe, mirror, and lighting, I'll need to figure out something that will magnify what I'll see on the mirror.

I have an old flexable sigmoidoscope (yes) It is great for inspections and even works on cannons :D

Don't worry it was cleaned before I ever put it in my cannon, and well a little gunpowder never hurt a person if I ever need to press it back in service..

I'll take a pic later if anyone is interested.  It works great.  It was misssing the light source so I use a stinger flashlight.

copdoc, I had no idea what a "sigmoidoscope" was untill you mentioned that you cleaned it first. :P

You need to take a picture of it being used on a cannon, blow it up to 24x36, frame it, and hang it in your waiting room.

I also have a interest in astronomy and own several types of telescopes ( maybe thats why I have an interest in cannons because they look like em too), so I'm wondering how to get a telescope to focus that close. I guess I'll take an eyepeice and get a barrel adjuster and and figure out how long the tube will have to be to get a clear image off of the diagonal mirror, much like a reflector telescope.

I had a 57mm recoilless rifle on the shelf in my office for a while but I had to ake it home to build the sub cal kit and repair the firing mechanism.  The barrel is welded so it will not chamber a 57mm round (all ATF rules apply)and only the 50BMG subcal will be in it.  I can't show a pic as I got spanked just for the Taupia mortar.(finally approved to post here)  I have had other things on the wall.  When you are also a police major you don't get as many questions as the liberal docs.
