Have you adjusted the trigger? A M-70 factory trigger can not be safely adjusted below 3Lbs. Dave

kplinde, it must be from the "shear's release". PLEASE BE SURE and CAREFUL to check your "bolt engage" Before you try to load an ammo into your chamber! I guess yours is not a new one and there is something wrong with the shears release. It could be from the bolt's shear release and/or from the triger sets. Sorry i can not tell good in English, lol...
I will say that as long as you set the shears/parts okay, the firing pin won't "accidentally strike" (the primer)...I was set my single set trigger rifles down to 1,1lbs, somes was 0,5lbs for double trigger set (JUST my own preference)...and it have never been "fail" and i check it periodically.
I will say that "the case" is not "much corelated" with the trigger pull weight...just "how" the shears (itself) and "how fit" is your bolt to the "inner reciever". If the "angle" (of the shears) are okays and in a "perfect sharp edges", "smooth" enough, "harden" enough, etc...it's okay. (some triggers even have lighter pull).
In a hunting rifle, 1,5lbs pull weight is a Minimum, IMO. But everyone has own preference and own "conditions".
I myself won't load an ammo to my chamber and use the "lock set" for "safety", Except in a "very limited condition". I've never trust "the safety".
You must check the "safety" of your rifles periodically in a simple way. Check your bolt in a "fast motions" and even "Knock" (down) your Unloaded rifle (its buttstock-with bolt engage) to the floor with "proportional" power, and/or "hit" your rifle (around the action) with your hand.  See if it is "accidentally strike" or NOT.

I'm sorry...if you don't have the skill for this reason, Better to you to send your rifle to the expert one or to the factory.
BTW, SAFETY is the most important thing!...You will never regret to spend some money for that. That's for sure!.

Regards,
Sebastian.
*oh ya sorry for my English...it wasn't my languange, lol. Hope this help.
Life is like a story, it is the "content" and not the "length" to make it good....

I have 4 M70s and never had a problem with any of them.  However, what you have is not a mere problem, but a disaster waiting to happen.   Please have a gunsmith check it out.  We don't want anything bad to happen to you or anyone else.

It seems the sear is not holding the firing pin back..  If the trigger has been incorrectly worked you may have the cause.  It's also possible the trigger has lost it's adjustment.  Perhaps the trigger has simply broken.  Remove the stock and check the trigger assembly..   Also ermove the bolt and check the trigger sear and the striker, the part sticking from the bottom of the bolt shroud that catches the trigger sear(sticks up from the bottom of the action).  In any case this rifle definitly demands repair before it can be used...  thanks from the gunnut69
PS,, check out the gunsmithing thread--  sorry for the blatant plug Zach'.

My gosh, gunnut, there is nothing to be sorry for. The most important issue here is getting his gun safe.  Safety can never be too blunt.
