Steyr not importing?
« on: January 18, 2007, 01:47:11 PM »
Finally gave up trying to build a super cheap, sub moa scout gun on Remington actions.  Went ahead and ordered a Steyr from RSR except...they are sold out and all Steyrs are on clearance.  Got the LAST one from Davidson's.  Both distributers say that Steyr will no longer be importing to the US.  Has anyone heard anything about this?  I checked the web page and tried to subscribe to the newsletter, but just got sucked into a never resolving loop.

That would suck, I had my heart set on a prohunter in 338 fed.  I don't know about them not being imported, but they have changed importers at least once in the past few years.  I would bet they will just change importers again.

??? Not again! They have changed distributors a few times before, but never have understood why.
I prefer their rifles more than any other mainly because of the near flawless craftmanship.
There was a site at steyrclearinghouse.com, but it is no longer active. It was associated with other firearm clearinghouse sites; Safariclearinghouse (still active). This links to the other sites.
Sako and Sauer seem to be the only alternatives in this class of rifles. I've checked out Mauser over the net, but not sure who REALLY makes them.

Just picked up my new Scout.  It's the base model in black and man is it nice.  Impeccable craftsmanship.  I can't wait to shoot it, but it's going to be another crummy weekend.

Just announced Steyr is under new ownership, the good news is the new owner is a hunter and a business man, maybe this will mean better marketing for these guns in America.  Steyr also just liquidated its inventory in the USA if you want one of their guns at a great price now would be the time to purchase.
