Who has 0.001 feeler gauge?
« on: January 18, 2007, 10:30:18 AM »
Anyone have a source for a 0.001 feeler gauge? I'm getting ready to shim a barrel, and the thinnest feeler gauge I can find for checking the lockup is 0.0015 . Thanks!

They are hard to come by.  I solved the challenge by getting a 0.001 shim from a mechanical supply store.  Actually I got a 0.001 AND a 0.002 for a buck a piece.  They are bigger and wider and probably better for this application.  The .280 barrel I got off this site fit just fine!  The good news is I got a nice buck with it.  The bad news is I didn't get the chance to REALLY test it because he was only 50 yards away.

Did you fit the .280 barrel with the .001 shim stock around the frame lug?....<><.... :)

No.  Between the frame and the barrel where they close together.

OK and thanks, I misunderstood, I thought you were actually using it for shim stock to FIT the barrel to the frame, not to CHECK the fit of the barrel to the frame...nevermind....<><.... ;)
