Both are good rifles and I don't think you'll go wrong with either. I personally prefer the Savage and I have a 112 BVSS in .223 which is a real good shooter for level of my needs. The Savage has a 1:9 twist, which will give you the option of using some heavier bullets -- which is only of value if you want to use heavier bullets. The Savage has the "controversial" barrel nut securing system for the barrel, which makes it possible to easily change barrels -- again, only a plus if you're ever interested in changing barrels.
I might also offer the opinion that before you write the check you should consider the Ruger 77 VT. I have one in .223 which to this day is the most accurate factory stock rifle I've ever seen. Now, mind you, I'm up in northeastern Vermont which ain't exactly the center of the universe, but this thing has beautiful lines, a great action and a nice stock. I was at the range today, testing loads, and shot 80 rounds, all in 5-shot groups of different loads, with the largest being 1.1" (the only one that was over .75") with Nosler 55 BTs and the smallest was .300" with Sierra 52 MHPBT. This past Monday I took the 77 VT to the range because, on another forum, a claim was made that no stock factory rifle would consistently shoot 1/2" groups. This rifle, with my grandpa eyes, shot 5 consecutive 5-shot groups with 52 Sierra MHPBTs and 27.0 Varget with the largest being .450" and the smallest being .285". Mind you, this is no brag on my part because I'm no big-shot shooter, I just want you to know that there might be another option.
I think rifles are a very personality-driven thing. If you look at a certain model and it just doesn't tickle your fancy, then I find it probably will never shoot good for you and you won't be happy with it. Some of my friends buy a certain model just because "all their friends" have that model. There are so many reasons. If you buy a brand you like, in a caliber you like, and spend the time with it to make any minor adjustments that may be needed, and find a good load that it likes, then it will all be worth it. Good luck.
