Hornet Barrel Question
« on: January 16, 2007, 03:24:54 AM »
How are you?

I'm new to this forum. May I have a question?

Would like to purchase a .22 Hornet barrel for my 1973 H&R Shikari 44 Magnum. Do you know if a new barrel would fit this oldtimer?
I may need an older barrel, right? Do all Hornet barrels come with a scope rail?

Thank you very much

Have a good day

Martin

Welcome aboard! If you look at the top in the FAQ and help sticky you find alot of use full info.
The hornet comes with either open sights or a scope rail. H&R/NEF will not fit barrels with an asterisk to frames made before 1999. Hope this helps.

Welcome to GBO, Martin! H&R NEF won't fit any barrel to frames made before 1987, and my guess is that a current model barrel wouldn't fit any way, you would probably need to find an older Hornet barrel to fit it. The reason I say that is I have a 1972 Topper 158 .30-30, the underlug is about .080" too long to fit any on any my modern frames, it would take a lot to make it fit, so that means a heck of a big shim would be needed to make a modern Hornet barrel fit your older frame if they're all that way. :'(

Welcome, Martin!

Since you're living in Canada, the accessory barrel program is probably out of the picture for you anyway.

The hornet is a great way to go a complete rifle is probably you're best bet; you'd need a different forend too I'm thinking.

good luck!

PS- That Shikari is a nice outft!

Thank you very much! I'm now on the hunt for an older Hornet barrel. Shipping a barrel to Canada is not problem. :)
