Whats the difference?

T/C, Contender, Encore, Pro Hunter. What is the difference between these. Can they all use pictol and rifle barrels? Whats the dif? Gary

Ok, was looking in the for sale area and they even have G2 and everything else. I thought all these were the same just later models. What would be the one to get? Gary

It all depends on what you want to hunt and what you like to shoot.  The Contenders and the first interchangeable barrel gun made by T/C, followed by the Encore and then the G2 and just lately the Pro-hunter came out, it is just a modified Encore.  I suggest you go to there web site and look at all they have to offer. The advantage the Encore offers over the Contender or G2 is the caliber selection and it has a stronger frame to take heavier recoil and pressure rounds. The G2 is better Contender with added features.

can all barrels interchange? Or pro hunter/encore, contender/g2?

I know for sure the Encore and Pro-Hunter are interchange.  I have not owned a G-2 so I have not tried, but I think they do interchange with the Contender. But Encore and Contenders do not interchange.

The statement about the G2 being better than the older Contender is a matter of opinion.  I prefer the old Contender.  Well, the last issue of the old style Contender.  The only advantage I can see in the G2 is that you don't have to break it open to reset the trigger.  Maybe the grip angle would make some difference; I've not shot one so can't say.  The thing I like about the old design is the trigger, which is adjustable.  The G2's I've seen all had horrible triggers.  And talking to the folks who work on the G2 and Encore triggers, they say they are a lot more difficult to get done good.  My old design I just stick an allen wrench in the screw and dial a good trigger setting.  A good trigger is needed to shoot well.  Also, if you desire a Pachmayr Decelerator grip to modify recoil of a hard kicker you can get one for the old but not the G2.  So, in my humble opinion, it's the other way around.  I prefer the old design and think they really screwed up a good gun by coming out with the G2.

What has been said is pretty much the truth about triggers.
 
All contender and G-2 barrels will interchange< except the new G-2 Blackpowder. Only works on G-2.
 
All Encore and Prohunter barrels interchage,.
 Encore and Contender(includes G-2) DO NOT interchange.(Whenever I say contender it includes G-2 unles I say something different.

Now some side notes, some of the older barrels will not work on the newer contenders with out changing the locking bolt to the newer style.
not hard to do and they are not expensive from T/C.

The new pro hunter has one thing over the reg Encore I really like, the swing hammer. T/C is very much against a hammer extension on their guns, with the swing hammer you do not need an extension to clear the scope.
 
 Now for which is best, I happen to like all of them, since I have each I guess I should.
 
 If I was going to buy just one and was sure I would not have any more I would do this.
 First, I would think about how I was going to use the firearm.
 Hunting, if so what, big small, all on ths planet.
 Just put holes in paper.
 
Do you reload or use factory ammo only,

 If you reload and like the oddball cartidges?
 

OK now my opinion, if you want the use cartridge such as 308, 338, 30-06 270, 300 win mag 416 rigby you have to get an Encore.
 If a 30-30, 223, 7-30, 444, 357, or any of the others listed in the contender catalog  will do for you then a contender is good for you

 The encore will shoot any contender cartridge but not vise-a-versa.
 There are many more calibers made fore the contender than for the encore by the factory, so your choice of cheaper barrels are greater for the contender then for the encore.
 
The custom makers will make any caliber you want foer the contender and encore( well at least the calibers that are safe)

I prefer my Encore, then G2....my old Contender has always been hard to open..........use it mainly now with my 410 barrel.

One thing is they are all neat guns.  I have an original Contender and three G2s, and happen to like the G2s better.  And now that there is a rubber grip available for the G2 I will have to see how I like it.  I kept one original for the Pachmeyer grips.  Maybe I don't have to now.  It is no big deal if I do because I like shooting that one as well.  It is just hard to open, and my arthritic fingers like the easy opening G2s better.  Amd I have been blessed with outstanding triggers on all the G2s from the factory as well.

One more question. Can i get pro hunter pistol and later if i wish, use rifle barrels and stock. Is there a difference between the frames? Thanks

encores swap out barrels just like the contender. Any and all should interchange as long as they are encore barrels
