Holster for 3" K-frame
« on: January 15, 2007, 04:52:53 PM »
I'm looking for a leather belt holster for my 3" Model 66 Smith & Wesson .357 Mag.  I know the 3" was a special length and not many of them were made.

After searching through a lot of the holster manufacturers websites, I can't seem to find one.

Does anyone know a manufacturer who has one?  I want a belt holster (not inside the pants), and in leather.

I'm in the same boat, but looking for a 3" J-frame holster. What I found is any of the custom or semi-custom makers can help you at a price. Otherwise watch Ebay, i have seen a few Kframe 3 inchers while looking for mine. Search under HOLSTERS AND BELTS. Search Kframe or 3". One I tripped over is item#140073212056. Other "cheap and easy" option if its not a concealment  issue is a 4 inch holster.

You can get one made from El Paso saddlery in open top (combat 88) or thumbbreak (#77) for around $55.00. This is an excellent holster for the price. It's going to be hard to find one off the shelf so-to-speak. Little Feather Leather can also make what you want (it may be a little more). :)

Thanks for the leads, guys.  I don't mind going custom, if I have to, but first want to check out any "on-the-shelf" options.

CJ  -  Bianchi makes a holster for th 3" J-frame.  I have one for my 3" Model 60 (adjustable sight) .357 Mag.  I think it's model 5B - a tan leather belt holster with a safety strap.

Desantis makes a belt holster for the 3" K-frame, it is a pancake style.  I think Bianchi also makes one for it but both holsters would probably be special order.  I have one of the Desantis for my 3" model 65 and have been well pleased with it.  I have the same holster for a 4" L frame and it has been carried a lot and is still holding up after several years of use

Search the gun shows & gun shops for used holsters. Last year at a local gun show I found a nice old Bucheimer black combat holster for my 3" S&W 696. It was like it was special made for my gun. Paid only $25 for it. These old holsters were the best quality. Bianchi also makes some fine holsters. GOOD LUCK!!

I've had great results from Levergun Leatherworks. He's made two holsters for me, and I've been very pleased with the quality of his work. You just tell him what you want, and he will work with you to make sure you get exactly the results you want.

Howdy ya'll,
Thanks for the plug Doug!

I can tell ya though, I will not beat the prices listed.  Doug ordered custom items that are not typical holsters.  His holsters had specific designs and needs and one had an extensive carving on it. :o

I am still waiting to hear how your seat belt holster worked out for you?????  Do we need to change the design or what? ???

Dah! Old age must be setting in.  I carried a 3-inch K-frame in an S&W holster for years.  And if I were carrying that weapon on the street again it would be my holster of choice.
