barrel fitting question
« on: January 15, 2007, 12:27:46 PM »
Finally got my second Handi. it came with 2 barrels. I want to take the .50cal barrel and put it on my other SB2 frame. When I put the barrel on this reciever, there is some play in the barrel. When I screw on the fore grip, it's a solid as a rock. I looked for any gaps where the barrel meets the reciever and I can't see any, looks to be flush and theres no barrel play. It will lock up easily and tight. What do you guys think. This barrel need to be fitted?

It won't matter much with a ML barrel, as long as it's solid when shooting it and it locks up the same each time, there shouldn't be any problem. You might try a shim on the pivot so it's not loose when the barrel is open if it is. It could only make it more accurate. ;) There's no case head thrust to deal with since the pressure is contained within the bore, so fit isn't as critical as a centefire barrel would be. If it's a .500S&W barrel .50 cal, that would be different!!

What quick said!  If you still have doubts, give NEF a call, they will be glad to answer.  I called them today for a price on a forend for my 243 and also to find the barrel twist.  I also have a 50 cal-243 combo but I do not like the forend for the 243 barrel because of the hole for the ramrod.  I want to play with accuracy a little bit.  I am getting about l 1/2 at 100 now.  Maybe that is all I'm going to get, but, I have to try. :)
