T3s up to par with older whitetail hunter models?
« on: January 14, 2007, 08:23:39 PM »
I heard that the newer T3s have cheapened up somewhat from what they used to be when they just had the Whitetail Hunter and Whitetail Hunter Deluxe. Just wondering if any of you can verify this. I have a Tikka Whitetail Hunter in .300 Win. Mag. and I also have had and do have Model 70s, Rugers, Marlins, Savages, Stevens and the Tikka will outgroup any of these other rifles in various calibers at any yardage. Too bad it's not a firearm you can plink with all day long because it sure boosts a guys ego. I am happy to have seen this forum added on Graybeard's because you just can't beat the Tikkas for the money in my opinion. Who knows where Winchester 70s are headed in the future, if there is one. The Rugers are a close second in bang for your buck in my opinion also. Anyways, any info will be appreciated because I've been considering another Tikka but don't know about the T3s and the close by gun shops don't readily have them on hand and I missed the gun show this weekend. Thanks, Dennis

I own both the older WHs and the newer T3s.  There is no difference in quality and fit and finish between the two.  The biggest difference is that the WH stocks are thicker overall, especially in the palm swell area.  The T3s are thinner, and lighter.

Accuracy seems the same - excellent.
Quality seems the same - excellent.

The only thing that I don't particular like in the T3 is the one-size fits all action.  In the WHs, short action cartridges, like 7mm-08, .243, and .308, all have true short actions.  Not a big deal, but I just don't like putting a short action cartridge in a long action receiver.

Biggest differance is in the stocks and the magazine release, but another big differance that Berretta made to cut cost was they switched from a recoil block to a recoil lug, kinda like the lug on Remington 700's but it's not screwed on with the barrel. Is this a big deal ,not really only when your building stocks,I like working with the blocks better.
