Remington 700 BDL Varmint Special??? Older Model
« on: May 02, 2003, 03:47:17 AM »
Fellows:

I am looking for an older model 700 BDL Varmint Special(heavy barrel) in 22-250...my dad has one with a beautiful Walnut Stock and deep true blueing that looks(and shoots) fantastic...I've searched and searched on the internet only to find one in about a year of looking!!!  So maybe I'm not looking in the right spots...

My fear is that there was either not many made or the people that have them like them so much they are hoarding them...

I am not really all that enthused about Remington's new 700's(the VLS would be the most compareable) after checking them over and getting a feel for them...

So, if you have advise about someone or somewhere to look please post it!!!

Thanks!!!

GSESLYR,

I know how you feel about those older Varmint Specials.  I've had one in 25-06 for a long time now.

Here's one you might want : http://www.gunsandammoauctions.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=8662122

It even has a Leupold scope and it's a 22-250.

I too have a 700 BDL VarmitSpecial, a 222.  It accuracy after all these years is amazing..  BUT,  beware.  These rifles were favorites for trips to prairie dog towns and if care is not taken they may have been severely damaged.  Had one in not long ago theat had the throat completely shot away...  Accuracy was the pits...  After installing a Shilen it shots great but rebarrels are no cheap.

My M700 BDL Varmit Special is a .25-06.  Made in 1976 and shoots great.  Almost as well as my Ruger M77V in the same caliber.  These older M700 BDL-VS were, to my understanding, a special order item.  By this I mean you had to order one as Remington didn't bulk send any out to dealers.  The one at Guns and Ammo Auctions looks great but be prepared to go a lot higher than the starting price.  Good Luck.  Lawdog
