Tikka rifles
« on: January 13, 2007, 05:54:05 AM »
I have a .223 in a Continental heavy barrel, a 30-06 laminate in a T3 for treestands, a 6.5-55 in a T3 for stalking and long walks.  All of these are bonifide MOA when I do my part.  It is great to know you are going to get a shooter when you put your money down.  Awesome firearm.    Buckfever

Buckfever,

Is there a significant weight difference in your laminate vs. the T3??

The chances of me actually getting to fondle one around these parts is like zilch.

I almost went that route but figured I'd go a little more traditional for my first Tikka purchase so I ended up with the wood / blue.

Those lams sure look shweeet though. ;D

The best shooter is the 6.5x55 as far as a hunting rifle goes. The Tikka Master Continental is in a catagory of it's own, it is as accurate as I can shoot and better.  The firearm will probably always be better than I am.  It is also a looker deep blue and lots of walnut.  Weights in at 9 lbs. great for varmints and bench shooting.  Have a 4x16 Elite 4200 on top.  If I lived in California I'd say it was BITCH'N.

The laminate 30-06 is 6 oz's heavier than the T3 wood hunter.  It is a very stout feeling gun I mean it feels pretty much like it would take a beating.  I ride an ATV in Canada an hour each way over hill and dale and a hell of a lot of logs and rocks with the 30-06 in the gun scabar bouncing all around inside there.  Therefore I need something that will take a beating.  I put steel Warne mounts on a 3-9 Zeiss Conquest.  This rig makes the trip most every year first thru the airlines baggage department then the major ATV rides.   Every time I shoot it either at the range or in Canada after all the banging around it is dead nuts on!!
My 6.5x55 is a great stalking gun that is easy to carry and it kills like lighting with moderate recoil.  The 30-06 is laminate and grey and is a great look.  The other two are blue and wood, old school you know!   These Tikka's are the mainstay of my rifles and I didn't even know about them until I came to Greybeards about 5 years ago.  Also thanks Zachary!            Buckfever

Thanks Buckfever,

Sounds like that Zeiss / Warne combo has been serving you quite well, a man couldn't ask for much more than that from his scope & mounts.

I believe I may save a laminate choice for a Grey Wolf, for when I feel the "need" to bring some Sako's into the stable :-X

Where does a Tikka fan get his hands on one of those "Master" series guns?   I have 3 Tikkas and love 'em.  Any pointers on how to post a picture?  Thanks

Sorry I don't know how to post a picture either.  I found the Master Continental by doing a search on google for the caliber ( .223) I wanted.  I had one come back after looking 7 or 8 pages deep in the search.  It was in a gun shop in rural New York state.  I called them and purchased the NIB firearm.  It is just a beautiful dead nuts accurate firearm.  Great for target shooting or varmint hunting.  Just keep doing searches.  I also saw one on Gun Broker about 6 months ago.  Good luck.  I will never sell this firearm it will get passed on to someone when I can't hunt any more, a long time from now!!   Buckfever

Buckfever,
I love those tikkas as well.  The laminate stainless in 300 wsm was a wonderful rifle.  Then I became fortunate enough to get my hands on a Grey Wolf in 270 wsm also a laminate stainless and my heart was won over even more.  I liked the fact that the Sako was all stainless unlike the tikka.  Since this grey wolf shoots so well I decided to let my tikka go last night.  Have a great evening gentleman and thank you for setting up the new Sako-Tikka forum.

Lonewolf, the Tikka is a very good and accurate rifle but as you well know it isn't at the same level as a Sako.  That my man is the Gold Standard!   Buckfever

My feeling excatly. Nothing worse than plunking down your hard earned cash for somthing you gotta fillde with. Not to mention it's a key selling factor for Tikkas. I don't how many folks have made the change after shooting one of mine. 8)

Don't feel bad,it's not a sickness my wife all ready tried to have me commited, but I talked the Doc's into a Deluxe. So up to 4 now,not to mention the ones I've been talked into selling.LOL
