T/C Icon... why am I just now finding out about this??
« on: January 12, 2007, 04:29:05 PM »
I recently swung by T/C's new website and saw the ICON.  I've found a few references online to it, but otherwise it looks like a new model.

What's the story with it?  I'm going to poke around town this weekend and look for one to fondle.  I'm curious about it, and know nothing about it, though I consider myself to typically be up to date on current rifle offerings, especially from domestic manufacturers.  Please educate me!

Partly because when I asked TC for one of the flyers I was allowed to read on it I was told no way Jose we don't want any leaks until AFTER the shot show and since I didn't have a flyer on it to use after the shot show and since I gave my word I'd not udder a word about it sooner I've not discussed it here.

It and all the new stuff were discussed by Ernie French at the hunt I attended last month and we all got to read the fliers and see the photos but were asked to not udder a word of it and so I didn't. I did tease with a post about all the new stuff they had coming that I wasn't allowed to mention.

That looks like a nice rifle but they need to put more info on the site. A good spec sheet would be nice, with weight, and twist. I just don't see the need of that new triumph muzzler loader though. I makes it look like there is something wrong with the Omega.

Does anybody know when T/C got acquired by Smith & Wesson ?   The announcement on the Home Page of the T/C website was a surprise to me.

I found that bit of info just as interesting as finding out about the ICON.  A consolidation between S&W and T/C may be a good thing.  Both have very strong name recognition in the field.

Now I am wondering if the $800 MSRP price tag will hold on the ICON.

From what I have read from the magazines, this rifle looks VERY interesting - especially from a quality control standpoint.  It seems that this is essentially a new bolt action design, and designed from scratch. I would love to get my hands on one and try it out.

A guy that is in pretty tight with the TC folks says that enough ICON's were spoken for at the shot show to amount to the first years production with ease.

Just got back from Acusports (distributor) dealer show and spoke with T/C reps.  About 5000 will be made, Acusport is supposed to get 1000 of them.  The rep I spoke to said that only the 30TC and the 308 will be available this year and then the 22-250 and 243 will be available in '08.  Very nice rifle!

I'm wondering if S&W will produce the Icon or come up with someting to replace it.  I wish T/C would have brought back something like the TCR.

Read about the Icon in the March/April issue of Rifle Shooter.  I got the impression from that article that they hadn't worked out all the design issues and so it wasn't ready for production yet.  The T/C rep is quoted as saying an assist spring is in the planning for the magazine and that the Sako-style extractor is temporary, and that they're aiming for a controlled round feed.  Of course, maybe the article was written months ago and the writer had an early prototype.  So are they arriving on dealer's shelves yet?
