What is the difference between a super 14 barrel and a 14" hunter barrel?

A 14" Hunter barrel came with a muzzle brake (Muzzle Tamer) no sights. Never heard of Super 14....there is however a Super 16. It has sights and is tapered far as I know.

The Super 14 was around for decades.  It is a full-bull Contender barrel (0.81" breech to muzzle) tapped for front and rear sights, with two forend screws.

I believe that most of the 14" "bull" barrels are considered Super 14's.  I have 3 14" barrels and they are all Super 14's, so they are quite common.  The barrels are not tapered (or are extremely slightly tapered) have open sights with no muzzle brakes.

Yes, both are D & T'd for scopes.  The total length is 14" for both, but the effective length of the Hunter is only about 12.5" because of the brake.

I HAVE A SUPER 14 CHAMBERED IN 30-30  .IT IS A BULL BARREL WITH A MUZZLE BRAKE ON IT IT IS A EXCELLENT SHOOTER.USED IT THIS YEAR FOR DEER SEASON......

I'm sure they're heavier, but I bet those barrels help soak up recoil better as well.

I have a Super 14 44 mag barrel and hate it . Too loud . I had a Super 14 7-30 waters barrel and traded it for a regular 14" bull barrel 7-30 waters  . The muzzle tamers are okay at the range as long as no one is shooting near you so you don't blast them out but terrible for hunting .

Do ALL super 14's have a brake on them?  I do NOT want a braked barrel, I agree they are painful on the ears no matter what protection i wear.

Super 14 barrels are not braked from the factory.  One can get a brake installed, but a factory Super 14 is a 14inch bull barrel without a brake.  "Hunter"  barrels which were made a number of years ago came from TC with a brake
