New Tikka / Sako Rifle Forum
« on: January 08, 2007, 03:16:05 PM »
Hi All,

I submitted a poll to see if anyone would have any interest in a dedicated forum for Tikka and Sako rifles. Seeing how Tikka's have become so popular in the last couple of years, I was hoping some of you might be interested in having a dedicated place to discuss them and Sako's as well.

Graybeard states that the poll has to indicate that at least 12 people have to be in favor of it before it will be considered.

If anyone is interested, you can go to the main menu screen of this site, near the top of the list of forums to the "admin. help and announcements section" then to the forum heading " Request a New Forum " ( I believe it is the fourth topic down on the list) and take the poll.

Zachary, I hope I'm not off base for posting this in this section, and I apologize if I am, but there doesn't seem to be much activity in the " request a new Forum" forum, so I thought that as it does concern Bolt Action Rifles and there is more activity here it might be o.k.

Thanks,

YB

A few years ago you could not find a more die hard Browning fan. Period.  After getting a Tikka and now two Sako rifles I am a BIG Sako/Tikka fan.  I would love a new fourm for it.  I just wish Berretta was not the importer for these fantastic rifles.

Last time I looked no one had volunteered to moderate it. That makes at least two forums waiting on someone to volunteer to moderate before it can be set up. My policy is clear and without a moderator volunteer no new forum will be opened.

The one on Blinds and Treestands has had the votes for two months now but no one will moderate it. I'll be deleting that one at the end of month if no one steps forward. Same will happen with this one if no one agrees to be the moderator.

Hey GB,

Thanks for getting back with us about the forum. Guess I was kinda overlooking the fact that forums require Moderators when I posted.

What exactly does a moderator's job consist of,  i.e., how good does ones computer skills have to be, approx.  how much time is required per day to moderate, and should the moderator be well versed in the forum topic matter of which he is moderating?

Hope the questions don't sound too stupid, just never had any exposure to what goes on behind the screen.

Thanks,

YB

There are two primary parts to the moderator's job. One is to be the "cheer leader" if you will for the forum to try to get a new one off on the right foot and keep it moving. Once a forum is moving along fairly well this duty is really not that important. The other is to keep watch over the forum and to enforce the GBO rules on it. You have to make sure folks don't get out of hand and forget the rules that make this site what it is. That's a never ending job and does require pretty regular checking of the forum, at least several times a week if not daily.

If you can post to the site you should have adequate computer skills to do the job.

There is no particular standard on this. The busier the forum the more time it takes to check it but especially a new one doesn't require all that much. No set amount per day but checking it daily is kinda important or at least seveal times per week minimum.

It helps if you want to feel the need to answer the questions folks answer but really it's the entire membership that help when folks ask questions. I don't feel me or the moderators are responsible for knowing all the answers. We have almost 20,000 members and someone of them is likely to know a good answer to most questions.

Nope no question is too stupid, well generally speaking at least. I've seen a few on here I thought might be from time to time.  :o ::) I've been known to dump some I felt fell into that category.

Thanks for the info GB.

I addressed some of this in response to a reply over on the " request a new forum" forum.

Would anyone that has the time available to them like to volunteer to Moderate this forum.

Thanks,

YB

There is no question that the Bolt Action Rifles forum is one of the most popular forums here at GBO, but that doesn't mean that I have an objection to a new "Tikka/Sako" forum being created.  I remember way back when I first started to rave about Tikkas, and they have grown to become very popular among hunters and shooter.  Granted, the T/S forum would be much more narrow and focused on these particular brands, and I think that most posters would get more responses from the BOA forum, but I see no reason why a new forum can't be created unless it doesn't fall within the 12 member-poll parameters set forth by GB, which it apparently has.  Congrats and good luck to our new T/S forum!
