Encore: If you could have two barrels?
« on: January 03, 2007, 05:58:27 PM »
What calibers would you pick up?  For me, I'm thinking .460, so you can plink with 45LC, have 454 mid range, and spend a lot of cash on some shiny 460's.  Then the 308 for those reach out and touch long shots.

If I could have 3, I'd pick up a 45-70...just for rabbit hunting :P

I just picked up a 15" 25-06 that I'm probably going to have cut down to 12".  That is a reach out and touch caliber.  The next barrel I'm going to probably pick up is a 375 JDJ.

I guess it would depend on the uses for the particular barrels.

Me personally I mostly Hunt Varmints & Coyotes and White Tail Deer.

For me one of the Barrels would have to be a .223 Remington. I'd top it with a 3x12x32mm Burris LER Handgun Scope. The .223 should suffice for my varmint / coyote hunting needs quite well. The second barrel choice would be for Whitetail Deer and would be a little tougher decision. I'd probably opt for a 7mm-08 Remington and top it with either a 2x7x32mm Burris LER Handgun Scope or a 3x12x32mm Burris LER Handgung Scope.

There are a host of other choices available and like stated I think the decision depends largely on what the uses will be and the range expectations of the cartridges choosen.

I'd probably go for a .223 for varmints and plinking and the second would be a .308 for bigger game.

for me if I could only have 2 barrels they would be
the 209x50 and the 45-410
The reason is I live in a shotgun only county and the 209x50 barrel is the only handgun  barrel I can  use for deer and the 45-410  works well for my small game hunting.

that being said I have  in my safe/ gun case A  26" 209x45 barrel, 15" 209x50, 15" 45-70, 14.5" 308 winchester, 12" 454, 12" 45-410.

Two Barrels, one rifle, one pistol?

Pistol, no doubt, 460 S&W due to the versatility as mentioned

Rifle-

375 H&H, I will evenetually get one of these.  It can do anything, and load it light.

If you felt that was a bit much, 30-06 tops 308 for me, heavy weight bullet selection.

But 2 barrels?  I think the addicition will grow greater than two barrels.  It's like ruffles, bet you can eat just one (or two, or three).

I have only 2 barrels, one for varmints and one for deer hunting.  They are both 14" bull barrels (super 14's I guess).  The first was a .204 Ruger and the second (recent purchase) is a 7-30 Waters, just because it's different.

Hoser, why are you cutting 3" off the barrel?
