S&W Model 60 - sights and holster
« on: December 31, 2006, 09:21:42 AM »
I recently acquired a M60 in 3 inch. It's a stainless 357 and has blued steel sights. Does anyone make red/white sights or something else that is easier to see? The black sights just don't do it except in bright light.

Also, I need a good holster, preferably Kydex. A good nylon one would work too. Any suggestions?

Doesn't anyone have one of these? I'd really like to find a good holster. There's plenty of them around for the 2" models, but not for the 3" ones.

Uncle Mikes makes some really good hosters. If you like that brand.

I have both an Uncle Mike's and an old leather holster for mine. I have no clue the brand of it but I've had it around for so many years the company might not still be in business anyway.

I disagree on the sights. For my eyes black is best, I can't see the colored inserts if the sun is shining and even if I could they fool the eye depending on the angle of the sun on them and move the POI around on you. I hate them. I also have a Crimson Trace Laser grip on mine. I can shoot better groups with the laser than the sights anyway as I don't see so well up close and that front sight is really too close to my eyes.

I like it a lot. It's a lot easier to shoot accurately than my 2" guns, and fits my hand like it was made for it.

I'm getting used to the sights now. At first I was having some trouble acquiring them in certain lighting conditions, but I'm getting better at it. I thought about the Crimson trace laser, but it's just too expensive right now. I could buy another gun (almost) for what one costs!

I'm still looking for a holster. I'll check Uncle Mikes again. Maybe I'll take it to the next gun show and go thru the boxes of old holsters they always have.

Well after looking at Model 60 s at a few gunshops for between 529 and 579 dollars I got a used one out of the paper in perfect condition for 425.00 . This one is a pre lock built around 2000 . I loaded some 357 158 gr.bullets with 10 gr. of blue dot and it was accurate but a little stiff in the recoil department. I picked up some Winchester 38 spcl. 130 gr + P s and shot 5 in the 9 and 10 ring at 10 yards with no noticeable recoil. What a sweet shooter.
So now I'm also going to find either an iwb or standard belt holster. :)   Animal

By the way, my model 60 is a M 60-10. Other than the lock on the newer M 60-15 I don't know if there is any difference.

Crosscut - I have an Uncle Mike's shoulder, IWB, and hip holster for my 3" Model 60 and like them all a lot. Each serves a slightly different use for me. Hip holster for use while at the range, IWB for concealed carry, and shoulder for carry while remote fishing and other outdoor (woods) activities.
