So much for "Wylie" coyote
« on: December 31, 2006, 05:52:59 AM »
Yesterday I was out quail hunting.  walking down a shallow creekbed about 10yd accross with cut crops on each side.  Have my 12 yr+ Brittany and kids cocker.   The Brittany goes on point, I walk up to shoot, the cocker jumps in brush pile and out jumps a HUGE red coyote!  Maybe 5 yds from me.  I was  very surprised.  At first I thought that it must be sick, but it took off real fast and hard.  Did not look sick.  I think that since we were downwind it did not smell us and it was just sleeping on the job.
I have never got this close to one before.  That damn dog points everything.  I really never know what will come up.  A porcupine, turkey, possum deer bed,  whatever.
I think this will be her last season, she has been a good partner, not a friend, for she will hunt for anybody, very strong desire, kind of like a favorite gun,
