Building a 6.5-284

[panhandle]

I'm a southpaw and have aquired a Charles Daly LH action and am now in the process of ordering the barrel.  It will be used for dry land deer and antlope hunting using the 120 Nosler BT.  What twist barrel would be best for this bullet.  Thanks

Try going to the Berger site, click products, then what type of bullett you are looking for, in this cast big game hunting, a drop down will follow and if you review this they give recommended twist rates for each round.  Hope this helps

I'm quite sure you could get by with a 10" twist if you limit yourself to 120 grain bullets, but why limit yourself? 129 grain bullets just might be the best all around bullet for the 6.5s. 9" will definitely be enough, and will probably stabilize the shorter 140s just in case you get a chance for caribuou or elk.

A 9" twist will stabilize the long 142 Sierra MKs fine out to 600 yards anyway.  My M700VLS in .260 shoots them quite well, although the very long 107s group slighter tighter (which I attribute to normal rifle preferences, not the twist).   Berger recommends a 9" twist for their long 140 VLD bullet.
