Will a Holosight work on the 'scope base on a Contender, or does it take a special base? Thanks

If you Halosight is set up to use Weaver style bases..and your Contender has Weaver style bases..then yes would be the answer.

I am happy that someone had good luck with tha BSA Holosight. Others have on light rounds. I put one on my .45 Win Mag and it loosened the screws on the lens after 4 shots with full loads. I tried locktite and the srews loosened after one shot. I then used super glue and the lens stayed tight, but the laser quit working. It appears that the battery is no longer making contact at the rim. I think this is why Midway was clearing them out for $50.

Another one of my failed experiments to buy cheap,

PS some of my cheap experiments work.

Dont do it , A bushnell holosight will not hold up to the pressure of anything beyong 45 colt. It will break down. it will come lose inside and then the image will disappear inside the sight picture. For 279 dollars they are not worth it . Yhey only have a 2-year limited warranty  so if you do get it and it breaks better send it in before the two years.

454HUNTER,,,,,, That's the first time I ever heard a Holosight wouldn't hold up. So what kind of red dot would hold up?  I have a Holosight on my .44 SRH, and now you have me worried.

barber, I have been using the Ultra dot and Ultra-dot Match-dot on my 460 Mags and 500 Mags. They hold up very well. One of them has over 3000 rounds of heavy 500 Mags and is still going strong.  ;D

I know it ain't no holo sight, but I just sent in a Burris 2x scope back to the factory for a broken cross hair.  It was mounted on a Ruger Blackhawk Hunter in .45 Colt.  Some of these hand cannons generate a lot of power.  ;)

The really bad part of this story is that I found the damage just after I climbed into my tree stand during hunting season.  Boy was I  mad.  Oh well life goes on.  But to really make me more mad was that after I climbed down and went back to the cabin to replace my gun and then return to the stand, would you believe that a deer snorted me just before I made it back to the stand!  Now that would make anyone really mad.   Boy I love hunting.   ;D

Are you guys talk'n about the BUSHNELL Holosight?  To my knowledge the word "Holosight" is a trademarked item belonging to Bushnell.  The one atop my 6" Anaconda 44 mag. has endured a goodly amount of abuse vis a vis a 335 gr. WFN pushed by an ample dose of H110.  I think if you stick with the Bushnell Holosight ($$$$$$$$!!) you'll be happy with the results.

Worked on my cheap BSA holographic sight. By putting two pieces of foam rubber in the battery compartment I may have solved my problems. I used a hammer to simulate the recoil and it stayed working. I will shoot it this weekend.

That kind of recoil simulation technigue ought to really put it to the test alright.  Hey, maybe I'll test my Leupold 2x in the same fashion and see how it holds up!  NOT!!! ;)

Never used a holosight... too expensive for me.  I did try red dots.  Not being wealthy I tried a Bushnell.  It was defective.  I sent it in and got it replaced.  The second also failed.  Then I bought a more inexpensive Tru-Glo, about $50, because it has a lifetime warranty.  It's been on the .44 Contender, not a bad kicker, since last summer and works perfect.

I do not recomend that anyone take a hammer to any sight. I did it because I had already written off this sight if I could not get it to stay working. The hammer diagnosed the problem, and tested the solution. If it can take a hammer, maybe it can take my .45 Win Mag. We will see.

I put a red dot on my 45-70 just for fun thinking it would last about half a shot....... still going! I couldn't keep anything on it before. Very happy with it.
