ProHunter Accuracy
« on: December 19, 2006, 03:35:38 PM »
OK, let's try this a different way since no one is responding to my post at the end of another thread.

7mm RemMag Prohunter 1st time at the range, every bullet I shot produced really great groups, most less than 1".

Subsequent trips to the range showed that accuracy was going away, with no consistancy of grouping, also 1st shots were not consistant.

Scope mounts are solild and tight with brand new Zeiss scope.

I recently found that both of the fore end screws were loose, I could make about 3-4 turns with a screwdriver until pretty tight.

So my question is would these screws being loose cause the loss of accuracy.  I will be going back to the range when I can, but I was hoping for some advice before that.

I would say yes, that would throw the accuracy off.

Anything is possible. Some say it will I say it won't. I have shot my Encore's with no forearm at all simply as a test and found no adverse behavior. The worst thing you could do is allow the sling stud to contact the rest in any way. This'll mess it up big time. Another problem I have had is having the butt stock too low. It will hit the bench top sometimes. That'll also mess up accuracy and it will pinch your armpit too. Ouch !!

I wouldn't rule out the scope as the culprit, even Ziess is made by man, are not immune from defects. ;)

If your forarm was loose, I would think that would have a lot to do with groups being inconsistent. If your forarm was loose and touching the barrel in different places, that would effect the accuracy of the shot.

That's why floating the barrel is such a key part of making not only T\C's accurate, but any rifle accurate.

Dave.
