Another barrel change question.
« on: December 17, 2006, 01:26:09 PM »
Before I get flamed, Ive read the FAQ, Ive read the H&R website and Ive read several other sites.

I know that I can't put a centerfire rifle barrel on a SB1 shotgun reciever, but what about the SB2 ultra slug receiver?

Im asking because I can get a 12ga Ultra slug hunter SB2-980 With a HW serial number for a good price.  All Ive read is that rifle barrels can't be put on shotgun receivers, but this isn't really a shotgun, its sold as a SB2 ultra slug gun.  I know that the 20ga Ultra slug gun has a SB1 reciever, but does this 12ga really have the same receiver as the big rifles?  Again it has a serial number HW###### and says SB2 ULTRA SLUG HUNTER.

I would like to end up with a rifled 12ga and a 223, but I can get this gun and a 223 barrel much cheaper than a 223 ultra gun and the slug barrel.

 ??? thanks
chad

Chad, the SB2 Slug gun frame, which is the same as the 10ga frame,  is too big to put a rifle barrel on it, it's physically larger, same for stock sets, they're not the same as rifle and shotgun stocks.

And welcome to GBO!! ;)

Thanks Tim,
Now that you mention it, that gun did look like a potato gun with a wooden stock.  The chamber end was huge.  So this gun is only able to use the ultra slug barrel and the 10ga barrel?   Oh well, maybe ill just buy this gun AND a 223 ultra varmint.
I could always buy a slug barrel for my rem870, but there is something about the size of this H&R that gets me.  Its like a howitzer without wheels.
