AA Hull's

:-D Ya know, since I've been in this game, anytime someone has mentioned reloading shotshells the first thing you hear is Winchester AA hulls.  So I think, Ok, there's and abundance of them, being wimpy skeet loads, so that's what a lot of folks use.  I didn't give it much more thought. I continued to use whoever's promotional field loads then reload them.  My local Wally-World didn't have the winchesters (really small town and really poorly stocked Wally-World) so I didn't really give them a lot of thought; until recently, I was in a neighboring town with one of the Super Store's.  I was browsing the sporting goods section when I saw the Winchester AA's and remembered that I was nearly out of anything useable so I picked up 4 boxes just to try.   Well Boy's and Girls, What a pleasent supprise!!!!  Those hulls just fly out on their own!!!!   I use a Browning BSS with the ejectors blocked and as a result, the hulls are just lifted enough that you can get a hold on the hulls.  This is what I attributed my inability to "shuck" hulls, and have been pulling them out by hand since I started Cowboy shooting.  Now I'm gonna hafta learn to reload properly, I think I'm gonna be a Gamer after all

So for anyone else that's having a problem getting the empties out of their double, I strongly recommend you spend the extra 50 cents a box and give the Winchester AA's a try.

I dumpster dive after nearly every shoot. I used to grab up the once fired AAs in a heartbeat, but lately I like to scavenge the green STS hulls. The reason is they have a taller column and I can get a bit more BP in there and hold a nice crimp. They also fly out of a SXS when shucked. Also, with BP they don't seem to wrinkle the finish in spots like the AAs do and I can sometimes load 'em up 2 or 3 times. AAs still work good mind you, but this has been the experience of a seasoned scavenger. Most folks know right away who is in the 55 gal drum, cause my tell-tale red boots stick out the top   :)

Howdy

You will fing that the AA, STS, Gold Premeir?  or any slick hull will just fall out of a SXS.  I can get 3 to 4 reloads from these hulls before the end melt to much to crimp shut tight  but stay away from the AA featherlights you may get one reload from them, but they have a different type of plastic in the hull and will crimp the side walls very easy and hang in the gun if you try to reload any more

I load the feather lites 1 time only.  I can load the STS 2-3 times.  The AA  light or heavy trap hulls work real well, but are not as available unless I go out to the trap/skeet range.
I load pretty hefty 78gr. 2f with 1 oz. shot, so the hulls don't last more than 2-3 times.  Plus I have 4 big garbage bags full of hulls that I bought at a big match that I glean from.  I have 7 popcorn tins full of ready to go hulls.  Don't think that I will run out soon.  Plus I do what Howdy does at the local matches.

Move over Howdy! Quit bein' so greedy in that Dumpster!!!

My old SxS simply wouldn't do The Cowboy Jerk, and I'd get an occassional misfire from the right barrel. Like Butler Ford I'd been using the el cheapos frum Wally World for a couple of years now. I attributed the problems to the gun. This weekend I was using AAs scavanged from the local trap range.

WOW!!! No misfires and The Cowboy Jerk worked every single time! 8)
