Sow's Ear
« on: December 16, 2006, 12:39:39 AM »
Here's a .30-30 with walnut stock, cut checkering, and a Leupold Rifleman.  Total cost about $400.00.

Shoots a tad over MOA with Winchester factory ammo.  I haven't worked up a load for it yet.  Most of this gun came from folks on this site.  Thanks!

That is one fine looking rifle. The look fits the caliber, as well.  The .30-30 is vintage enough to sit beside the .38-55 and .45-70.  Perhaps, H&R/NEF should offer a BC/Target Rifle version of the .30-30.

Great Job  ;)

Swampy that baby is 'fat' as my young friends would say.   Translation; very nice.  I like those stocks.

I think Trader 72 provided the stock set.  The barrel, action, and scope base came from a gentleman in GA.  The scope was on sale at Bass Pro, and the Weaver Quad-Loc rings came from Walmart.  I like the cresent buttplate, and feel that it's OK on a .30-30.  On a heavy kicker the recoil pad would be nice.  I want to put a 1" high quality leather sling on it using a front barrel band from Uncle Mike's.

Come on Brett get with it. Everybody knows that when your saying something's really nice it's "PHAT" that PH denotes that you are not discussing actual fat. As in "Yo Dog, dat rifle's PHAT".

I don't think anyone could "not" like that setup. It is a beauty and I am more than just a little bit curious as to what reloads would do for it. Please keep us updated as to load development in this rifle.

Swampman that 30-30 is a beauty to behold, truely now a a slik purse. It is a classic looking gun all the way. And the addition of a nice 1" leather sling held on by a barrel band is oustanding. You buddy , just like Charlie Tuna, have great taste...Congratulations!!!!....<><.... :)

P.S. - any thoughts on the reciever?

I can't sell it that cheap.  I guess I have an expensive paper weight.

Swampman, That is really a great looking handi. Is that a 22in barrel or is cut down some. I'm really gonna have to build me one too.  :)

It's 22" which I feel is short enough.
