problem with encore groups moving
« on: December 12, 2006, 01:14:16 PM »
i've been to the range 3 times in the last 12 days with my  encore in .25/06. while my groups are 1" or less, they are continuing to move up. for instance back on dec.1 i had a load hitting 2" high at 100yds. i went back on dec.8 and the group was hitting 3" high. today i went and shot and it is 4" high. all my rings and bases are tight. any suggestions?

Sounds like the barrel is shooting good, check to see if your scope is moving in the rings if not, change your scope and see if the groups stay consistent.

Doesn't sound like "stringing". Ive had this happen when my forarm was in contact with my frame after I would lock up the barrel. That was an easy fix as I just filed enough of the forarm away so it would no longer contact the frame.

Redhawk may have the best suggestion. I know it's a PITA to change out scopes, but that certainly sounds suspect.

Dave.
